"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7

Core Kingdom Truth

How you finish reveals what you actually believe.

Devotional

Most professionals think carefully about how to enter a role. Few think carefully about how to exit one.

When the offer came, Sarah was thrilled. New company, significant step up, exactly the direction she'd been working toward. She gave her notice and immediately felt the pull of the new — the excitement of what was coming making it hard to stay present for what remained.

Her mentor asked a pointed question: "How are you stewarding the last thirty days?"

Sarah paused. She'd been mentally checked out since the acceptance email. Still physically present — but not fully there.

2 Timothy 4:7 is Paul's near-death reflection on his life's work. He fought the fight, finished the race, kept the faith — through to the end. Not until things got difficult. Not until something better came along. To the end.

Sarah reorganized her last month. Detailed transition documents. Honest conversations with her team. A genuine effort to set her successor up to win. She left having given the same energy to ending as she had to building.

Her manager's goodbye note said: "The way you left is as impressive as anything you did while you were here."

Faithful endings are rare. They're also the beginning of everything that comes next.

This Week's Practice

Are you in any transition — a role, a project, a relationship — where you've been mentally checked out? Re-engage this week. Give the ending the same intentionality you'd give a beginning.

Closing Prayer

Father, help me finish well in every season — giving full effort to the end, stewarding transitions faithfully, and leaving every role better than I found it.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
