Anchor Scripture

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
— James 1:5

Core Kingdom Truth

Seek God's wisdom before making moves—commit your decisions to Him.

Devotional

The offer was on the table. More money. Better title. Prestigious company. On paper, it was everything Lisa had been working toward.

But something felt off.

She couldn't explain it rationally. The role made sense. The compensation was strong. But in her gut, she felt uneasy. She didn't know if it was fear, wisdom, or just anxiety about change.

So she did what she'd been learning to do: she asked God for wisdom.

James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault." Lisa had always rushed decisions, trusting her gut or her analysis. But she was learning that major decisions needed God's input first.

She prayed for a week. She asked trusted friends to pray with her. She read Scripture and journaled. And slowly, clarity came.

The role wasn't wrong—but it wasn't right for her right now. It would require 60-hour weeks and constant travel, pulling her away from her family during a critical season. The prestige was appealing, but the cost was too high.

Lisa turned down the offer. Three months later, a different opportunity came—one that aligned with both her calling and her current season of life. Better fit. Better timing. And she knew it was right because she'd sought God's wisdom first.

Committing your work to God means committing your decisions to Him before you make them. It means slowing down, asking for wisdom, and trusting that He'll guide you—even when the "obvious" choice isn't the right one.

This Week's Practice

Before making any significant decision this week (career move, project commitment, major purchase), pause and pray James 1:5. Ask God for wisdom. Wait for clarity. Don't rush the decision just because you can.

Closing Prayer

Father, I need Your wisdom. I want to make decisions that honor You, not just decisions that look good on paper. Slow me down. Give me clarity. Help me seek Your input before I make my move.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
