Month eighteen of the startup was the hardest.
The early momentum had carried them further than the investors expected. Then it stalled. Not dramatically — just the grinding halt of a reality that was harder than the pitch deck had implied.
Three of the five founders were questioning whether to continue.
Rachel had been the most optimistic at the start. She was also the most honest in month eighteen: “I don’t feel anything right now. I’m just choosing to keep going because I believe we were called to this.”
That’s the definition of perseverance. Not enthusiasm. Not confidence in outcomes. The decision to continue faithfully when the feelings have dried up and the results haven’t arrived.
Galatians 6:9 is honest about the vulnerability: we can become weary in doing good. The antidote isn’t manufactured enthusiasm — it’s the promise of harvest at the proper time.
Not our time. God’s time.
The startup eventually found its footing in month twenty-four. But what Rachel carried forward from month eighteen was more valuable than the company: the experience of committing work to God when everything felt uncertain and continuing faithfully anyway.
That’s what commitment actually looks like. Not the promising seasons. The grinding ones.

What are you on the verge of giving up on? Before you decide, bring it to God honestly this week. Ask: “Did You call me to this? If so, am I quitting because it’s actually over — or because it’s hard?” Let the answer guide you.
Closing Prayer
Father, sustain me in the hard middle. When the feelings are gone and the results haven’t come, help me continue in faithfulness. The harvest is Yours to determine. My job is not to give up.
