"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." — 2 Corinthians 9:7

Core Kingdom Truth

Generosity in the marketplace is one of the clearest ways a believer looks different.

Devotional

He gave the referral away.

It was a significant one — a prospect that would have been worth real revenue to his firm. But the better fit was clearly his colleague's company, not his.

He made the introduction, clearly, without strings.

His colleague called afterward: "Why did you do that? You had the relationship."

"Because it was the right thing for the client. And I'd rather be known for that than for the revenue."

2 Corinthians 9:7 describes a giving posture — decided in the heart, not reluctant, not obligated. Cheerful. Which implies it actually costs you something and you genuinely don't mind.

That kind of generosity is jarring in the marketplace. Scarcity thinking dominates: protect your advantage, guard your network, share only strategically. Generous behavior in that environment stands out with the same clarity as light in a dark room.

The referral came back three times over in the following year. Not because generosity is a strategy — but because God tends to honor the open hand in ways that closed fists can't produce.

More importantly, his colleague asked that question. And the answer opened a conversation about faith.

Generosity is mission. Every time.

This Week's Practice

Where is there an opportunity for generosity this week that it would cost you something to take? A referral, a resource, time, knowledge, a connection. Give it. Freely. And notice what God does with the open hand.

Closing Prayer

Lord, make me genuinely generous — in money, time, knowledge, and opportunity. Let my open hand be a witness to Your generosity toward me. And give me the faith to believe that You will provide what I give away.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
