“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”— Ephesians 2:10

Core Kingdom Truth

Your worth isn’t tied to your work—your work flows from your worth in Christ.

Devotional

Rebecca refreshed her inbox for the third time in five minutes. The promotion decision was supposed to come today, and her entire sense of self hung in the balance. If she got it, she was validated. If she didn’t, she was a failure. The email arrived: “We’ve decided to go in a different direction.” Rebecca felt the floor drop out. Her first thought wasn’t disappointment—it was identity crisis. If she wasn’t the rising star, who was she? That evening, a mentor asked her a piercing question: “Rebecca, if you lost your job tomorrow, would you still know who you are?” The honest answer was no. But Ephesians 2:10 reveals a radically different order. Paul says we are God’s handiwork—His masterpiece—created in Christ Jesus. Our identity is established first. Then, from that secure identity, we do the good works God prepared for us. The work flows from the worth, not the other way around. Rebecca began the slow work of disentangling her identity from her performance. She started each morning: “I am God’s beloved daughter. My worth was established at the cross, not in the boardroom.” When you know who you are in Christ, your work becomes worship instead of worthiness-proving. This is the freedom every marketplace professional needs: to work from a secure identity rather than working for identity.

This Week’s Practice

Each morning before checking email or starting work, declare aloud: “I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus. My worth is secure. My work flows from that worth.” Notice how this shifts your posture throughout the day.

Closing Prayer

Father, root my identity in Christ alone, not in my performance or titles. Help me work from the security of being Your beloved child. Free me to serve without the burden of proving my worth.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
