Q3 had been relentless. Every week had brought new urgency — new problems stacking on unresolved ones, a team stretched thin, a calendar that left no margin.
Kevin's devotional time had disappeared somewhere in April. Not intentionally. Just gradually displaced by the earlier-starting days and the later-ending ones.
He noticed the difference before he could name it. Decisions felt harder. Patience shorter. The work that used to feel meaningful started feeling mechanical.
John 15:5 is one of the most practical verses in the Bible for marketplace professionals — and one of the most ignored. Fruit doesn't come from harder striving. It comes from remaining connected to the source of it.
The branch doesn't produce fruit through effort. It receives it through connection.
Kevin rebuilt a small, non-negotiable morning practice. Not long — fifteen minutes. Scripture and prayer before the phone. It felt inadequate against the volume of what the day held.
But something shifted. The clarity came back. The patience returned. The work that had felt mechanical became meaningful again.
He hadn't worked harder. He'd abided better.

Father, in the busy seasons especially, help me abide. I can't produce what You produce through me. Keep me connected to You — the source of everything that actually matters in my work.
